On Saturday 3rd December, the last weekend of Spring, I jumped in the car with my trusty yellow gavel to play auction ‘ping pong’ across Brisbane. From New Farm, to Indooroopilly, back to New Farm and noon at Toowong.

The day started with a three-bedroom ground floor New Farm unit at 2/10 Oxlade Drive.

The perfect property for the downsizer market and they were all there. Strong bidding finished with a sale of $1.475m.

At 10am, a sprawling Queenslander on about 3000sq m in Indooroopilly sold for the first time in 50 years. The home, at 59 Hunter Street, Indooroopilly, required renovating and saw a bidding pool of family home buyers and developers; 15 registered bidders!

For over an hour, they bid and negotiated until finally, just after 11am a sale was made at $5.76m.

With the luck of every green light, maybe some amber ones, I arrived at New Farm to a room full of buyers ready to buy an Art Deco two-bedroom unit at 3/738 Brunswick Street.

I bolted from the car, started the auction and bidding took off! Six registered bidders battling it out in just under 10 minutes to see the apartment sell for $980,000 to a fly-in fly-out local looking for a Brisbane base.

With one to go, I ran back to the car on Brunswick Street to find the air-conditioning still on, keys in it and the car running. Eek!

The final auction of the day was a new home in Toowong.

Beautifully presented and three registered families were all waiting to begin their next chapter. A young couple with baby in arms bought the home under the hammer for $2.78m.

I can report from the market that Spring had all buyer groups out, bidding and buying.
